FORMER STATE PATROL LEADER NESBITT FILES FOR TREASURER Says He Honestly Wants To Do The Job

NEWS RELEASE

February 23, 2010

Tom Nesbitt, former Colonel of the Nebraska State Patrol, today filed to run for the office of state treasurer as a Republican candidate.

Nesbitt said he filed for the office because he honestly wants to do the job. Nesbitt has been canvassing the state and said Nebraskans trust his non-politician status and find it refreshing. “I am not a politician,” Nesbitt said. “I have no aspirations to use the treasurer’s office as a springboard for some other office, and if elected I pledge to serve out my term and run for a second term.” Nesbitt’s opponents have made no such pledge.

Former state treasurer Ron Ross is also supporting Nesbitt’s election bid. “That office has had four treasurers in the last ten years,” observed Ross. “The office provides a valuable service to Nebraskans, and we need some stability there. Tom Nesbitt is the candidate who will provide that stability.”

Nesbitt is the youngest Colonel ever to lead the Nebraska State Patrol.

“One of the accomplishments that I am proudest of is that while I was Colonel we managed to run our 700-employee department efficiently enough that we were able to return money from our budget to Nebraska’s general fund,” said Nesbitt. “That is a great credential to bring to the treasurer’s office during these tough economic times.”

Heidi Cuca-Conklin said Nesbitt has broad appeal as a Republican candidate. “Tom Nesbitt is the most important Republican candidate to run in this cycle because he is most able to attract a broad spectrum of voters,” said Cuca-Conklin. “Tom’s style sees the party as welcoming rather than exclusive. We need that kind of thinking and that kind of person standing for office in Nebraska’s Republican party.”

Nesbitt is a native Nebraskan, married to a native Nebraskan. The couple has two children, one of whom is a Marine waiting to be deployed to Afghanistan. He is a member of the NRA and the Lincoln Berean Church.
